Deciding what you want in your wedding cake is stressful. Do you want a classic design...maybe something modern? Contemporary Wedding Cakes by Nadene Hurst and Julie Springall combines classic and modern in gorgeous cakes. Flipping through this book would do worlds for any bride-to-be in her decision on what she wants her cake to be. With 20+ designs in this book, there is something for everyone.
With 143 pages of cake design, creativity will be flowing in no time. This book is sectioned into three chapters: Royal-Iced Wedding Cakes, Stacked Wedding Cakes, and Sugarpaste Wedding Cakes. Royal-Iced Wedding Cakes shows off the versatility of royal icing, and keeps the classic design contemporary. Stacked Wedding Cakes houses American-style cakes stacked directly on top of each other using dowels to keep them from sinking. Sugarpaste Wedding Cakes is my favorite chapter because it highlights gorgeous decorations that are all created form sugarpaste; these cakes are less formal than the first two chapters, but combine classic and modern in a way otherwise unseen.
The best thing about this book is that it not only shows you the cakes, it helps you to make them. In the back there are thirteen pages of templates to help you along. If you are looking to make your own wedding cake, or if you have a bridal shower coming up that you offered to bake for, this book will definitely be helpful. One of my favorite cakes, Indian Elephants, has its designs in the back. Without them I would be hopeless, but these templates are easy to follow and do not look like they would take long to finish.
