I have made garlands before and this is a lovely idea! There are so many variations on this, from making the hanging string or rope invisible, by using heavy duty fish line, so that the banner iu seems to float in mid air, to making the rope a part of the design, using satin fabric or jute rope depending on taste and availability. Add some stringed tiny LED solar lights for extra pop!
