- 1 – Coats & Clark® Polyester All Purpose Zipper 12" [30 cm] in 256 Natural
- Sewing needle and matching thread, straight sewing pins, yarn needle
Instructions
Clutch measures 12” long x 8” high (30 x 20 cm)
GAUGE: 9 sts = 4" [10 cm] in Pillar Stitch. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.
Glam Clutch is worked in one rectangular piece, then folded in half and side seams sewn together. Zipper is then sewn in along the top edges for closure.
Stitch Pattern
Pillar Stitch (over a multiple of 2 stitches)
Row 1 (Wrong Side): Purl all stitches.
Row 2 (Right Side): *Yo, knit 2, pass yo over the 2 stitches just knit; repeat from * to end.
Repeat rows 1-2 for Pillar Stitch pattern.
Clutch
Cast on 22 sts. Knit 2 rows ending with a Right Side row.
Set up pattern as follows:
Row 1 (Wrong Side): K1, work Row 1 of Pillar Stitch pattern over center 20 stitches, k1.
Row 2 (Right Side): K1, work Row 2 of Pillar Stitch pattern over center 20 stitches, k1.
Next Rows: Keeping first and last stitch in Garter Stitch and center stitches in Pillar Stitch, continue working as established until piece measures 7" [18 cm] from cast on edge, ending with a Right Side row.
Next Rows (Wrong Side): Knit 3 rows ending with a Wrong Side row.
Next Rows (Right Side): Change back to Pillar Stitch pattern with Garter Stitch edges and continue until piece measures 14" [35 cm] from cast on edge. End having just worked Row 1 of Pillar Stitch pattern.
Next Row (Right Side): Keeping Garter Stitch edge stitches, purl 2 rows.
Next Row (Right Side): Bind off all stitches purlwise.
Finishing
Fold rectangle in half and sew side seams together leaving top open. Insert zipper along top edges, pin zipper in place. With needle and thread, hand sew the zipper to top opening. Weave in all ends.
To Shorten Zipper: Measure the length of inside of Clutch opening. Mark the length on zipper. Using sewing needle and a double strand of thread, whip-stitch tightly across the zipper coil 8-10 times. Cut the zipper ½" [1.3 cm] below the stitches.
